Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 5, which will replace Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 4 in South Sudan, consists of 63 members, including 11 females. Meanwhile, Engineering Unit Rotation 2, replacing Engineering Unit Rotation 1 in Abyei, has 184 members, including 19 females.

Addressing the event, President Vo Van Thuong said that the Party and State are proud of achievements of the peacekeeping forces, expressing his hope that the recently-deployed Vietnamese comrades and cadres will continue the work achieved by the previous peacekeeping forces, promote their bravery, intelligence and capacity in performing their duties.

With the companionship of the United Nations, other nations and partners, Vo expected that the Vietnamese peacekeepers will make effective and substantive contribution to peace and stability in the region and the world, thus increasing the nation's status and prestige.

After nearly 10 years since the master plan on Viet Nam's participation in the UN peacekeeping operations was ratified, the nation has basically completed mechanisms and created legal foundations for sending its army and police forces to take part in UN peacekeeping activities beyond its territory, said the President.

So far, the country has sent 533 officers and professional soldiers to UN peacekeeping operations, and they have properly fulfilled their tasks, he noted.

The outcomes of the Vietnamese peacekeeping forces have been highly appraised across all sectors, as they have joined to address international issues, including coping with regional and international traditional and non-traditional challenges, contributing to realizing the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Millennium Development Goals, stressed the State leader.

The President expressed his gratitude to the UN, international partners and all peace-loving people around the world for actively supporting Viet Nam in the process of preparing forces and deploying peacekeeping missions at UN peacekeeping missions./.
