President meets foreign leaders on sidelines of APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting
VGP - President Nguyen Xuan Phuc had bilateral meetings with leaders from the Philippines, Singapore, the Republic of Korea (RoK), Chile, Australia, France, Canada and Peru on the sidelines of the 29th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand on November 17 and 18.
At the meeting between the Vietnamese President and his Philippine counterpart Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos, both leaders pledged to promote the bilateral relationship in an intensive, effective and substantive manner.
President Marcos affirmed that the Philippines always attaches importance to the strategic partnership with Viet Nam, appreciating Viet Nam for its support for the Philippines to ensure food security.
The two leaders affirmed their determinations to continue working closely to promote solidarity and maintain ASEAN's centrality in common security issues, including the East Sea, and contribute to efforts to build an environment of peace, security and development in the region and the world.
During the meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the two sides vowed to join hands in organizing activities to celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties and 10th anniversary of the establishment of Strategic Partnership next year.
The President suggested the two nations actively implement agreements reached by their senior leaders, particularly in fields of digital economy, digital transformation, green economy, clean energy and cyber security.
He stressed the need to study the establishment of partnership in digital economy and green economy, considering it as a highlight in the bilateral cooperation in the time ahead.
Nguyen invited the Singaporean PM to visit Viet Nam to discuss measures to deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
PM Lee Hsien Loong agreed with President Phuc's recommendations, noting that Viet Nam is an important partner of Singapore in the region.
At the meeting with RoK's PM Han Duck-soo, the two leaders affirmed to treasure the Viet Nam-RoK Strategic Partnership, regarding each other as the top crucial partner in the region.
The Vietnamese President proposed the two sides support and facilitate the role of the Vietnamese community in the RoK and the RoK community in Viet Nam in a bid to enhance bilateral ties.
PM Han reiterated that his country will continue close coordination with Viet Nam in addressing international and regional issues of mutual concern and coordinate with the Southeast Asian nation to fulfil its role as the coordinator of ASEAN-RoK ties in the 2022-2024 period.
President Nguyen Xuan Phuc asserted to foster the Viet Nam-Chile relations more intensively, effectively and practically while meeting with Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font.
He invited the Chilean leader to visit Viet Nam, recommending both nations work together to enhance cooperation between ASEAN and the Pacific Alliance (PA) as well as at other multilateral forums.
President Gabriel Boric Font put forward some proposals with a view to accelerating bilateral economic-trade cooperation within the frameworks of the Viet Nam-Chile Free Trade Agreement and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
During his meeting with Australian PM Anthony Albanese, the President spoke highly of the Australian Government's decision to increase official development assistance (ODA) for Viet Nam by 18 percent to AUD92.8 million in the 2022-2023 fiscal year.
The Australian PM congratulated Viet Nam on its election to the UN Human Rights Council in the 2023-2025 tenure, expressing his hope that the nation will continue to make substantive and effective contribution to the mechanism.
Australia attaches importance to strengthening the strategic partnership with Viet Nam, he said, affirming to coordinate with Viet Nam to celebrate the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties in 2023.
President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron asserted to attach importance to Viet Nam-France Strategic Partnership across all sectors of history, culture, politics and economics, sharing the wish to further promoting their relations.
Nguyen proposed the two sides increase exchanges and visits, and actively discuss issues related to maritime cooperation, rice trade, energy security, defense as well as join hands in handling consequences caused by natural calamity and epidemics.
For his part, the French President reiterated that he treasures Viet Nam's role and status in the Southeast Asia and ASEAN.
The two countries should promote cooperation in all spheres in 2023 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties and 10th year of the bilateral strategic partnership, particularly in green energy, agriculture and defense, noted Emmanuel Macron.
During the meeting with Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, both sides expressed their satisfaction at the strong development of the Viet Nam-Canada strategic partnership. They agreed to increase all-level visits towards the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2023.
They consented to boost coordination in climate change and gender equality, and address global challenges such as food security, energy security and cyber security.
PM Trudeau invited the Vietnamese President to visit Canada in 2023.
Talking to Vice President of Peru Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, Nguyen welcomed the Peruvian parliament's ratification of CPTPP, saying that it creates a favorable legal framework for raising bilateral trade in the upcoming time.
The Peruvian Vice President invited the Vietnamese leader to visit Peru and attend the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in 2024.
She expected that both countries will optimize such mechanisms as APEC, CPTPP, ASEAN and the Pacific Alliance to upgrade their relations to a new height./.
