Following the ceremony, the two leaders held talks to review recent cooperation outcomes and chart major directions for future collaboration.
This marks the Sultan's sixth visit to Viet Nam, further strengthening political trust, advancing multifaceted cooperation, and deepening the increasingly substantive and effective bilateral relationship.
Viet Nam and Brunei officially established diplomatic relations on February 29, 1992. Over the past three decades, their friendship and cooperation have grown steadily and substantially. A major milestone was reached in March 2019, when the two sides agreed to elevate bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Partnership during the Sultan's state visit to Viet Nam.
The upgrade to a Comprehensive Partnership signaled an important leap in both scope and quality of cooperation. Since then, the partnership has recorded significant progress across key pillars—politics and security, trade and investment, and people-to-people exchanges. The two countries have also closely and effectively coordinated at regional and international forums, particularly within ASEAN and the United Nations, supporting each other on issues of common interest.
Economic, trade, and investment ties have continued to expand, forming a solid foundation for long-term cooperation. Defense and security cooperation have also achieved positive results through the implementation of memoranda of understanding and collaboration in specialized areas.
Looking ahead, both countries see considerable potential and opportunities to further enhance their cooperation, especially in renewable energy transition, green growth, and the circular economy, in line with shared commitments to emissions reduction and sustainable development. /.
