PM's South Korea visit creates new boost for comprehensive strategic partnership
VGP - The upcoming official visit to South Korea by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is expected to cement and deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, said Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.
The Korean Prime Minister made the above statement in an interview on the threshold of Pham's visit slated for June 30 to July 3.
Han said that the visits by high-ranking leaders of the two nations have contributed significantly to their close ties, elaborating that Viet Nam and South Korea have built the world’s leading exemplary cooperative relations over the past 30 years.
So far, two-way trade turnover surpassed US$100 billion and is expected to reach US$150 billion by the end of this decade.
This is the first official visit by a high-ranking Vietnamese official since the two countries upgraded their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in December 2022.
2024 is the third consecutive year that high-level visits take place between the two countries which represent their close relationship.
Viet Nam, said the Korean Prime Minister, is a key partner of the Korean government in its Korea – ASEAN Solidarity Initiative (KASI) and the Indo-Pacific Strategy.
South Korea expects to spur the win-win and practical partnership with Viet Nam to ensure peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific amidst rapid changes in the region, he added.
Mr. Han described Prime Minister Pham’s visit as a good opportunity for the two countries to strengthen strategic exchange and contact between key leaders of both sides.
In addition, he suggested the two sides materialize their cooperation mechanisms such as dialogues between the foreign ministers.
He also proposed the two countries beef up the bilateral relations broadly in key areas, including economy and trade for economic recovery and expand the existing cooperation to other domains namely economic security, science-technology, climate change, human resources training, and culture.
People-to-people exchange has been a motive for the sustainable relations between the two countries, highlighting the Vietnamese and Korean communities, with 200,000 people in each nation, have served as a bridge that contributes to spurring the bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, science-technology, and human resources development./.
