Prime Minister attends ASEAN-RoK summit
VGP - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed ASEAN and the Republic of Korea (RoK) take on a new journey with a longer vision and higher goals towards the 35th anniversary of their relationship in 2024.
Prime Minister Pham made the point at the 24th ASEAN – Korea Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia on September 6.
The PM of Viet Nam which is the coordinating country of ASEAN-RoK relations, said that ASEAN and the RoK need to create strides in economic cooperation, and boost trade and investment in a balanced and sustainable direction.
He welcomed the Korea-ASEAN Solidarity Initiative (KASI) aimed at taking their partnership to new heights especially on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of their relationship in 2024.
He expected that the RoK would further open its market for export items such as agricultural and aquatic products and seasonal fruits from ASEAN countries, support ASEAN businesses to engage more deeply in Korean businesses' global supply chains, and create conditions for ASEAN businesses to expand investment opportunities in the RoK.
He also suggested the two sides further promote cooperation in the fields of digital transformation, biotechnology, high-tech electronics, semiconductors, clean energy, smart cities, high-tech agriculture.
Pham called for building specialized, environmentally friendly industrial production complexes, implementing climate action projects, enhancing cultural exchanges, and bolstering Mekong sub-region cooperation through the Mekong-Korea Partnership framework.
At the end of the summit, the leaders of the two sides approved the ASEAN-Korea joint statement on cooperation based on AOIP./.
