PM meets world leaders on ASEAN-Australia Special Summit sidelines
VGP - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with leaders of all ASEAN Member States, Australia, New Zealand, and the ASEAN Secretary-General on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Melbourne on March 6.
At these meetings, Pham conveyed the greetings of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and other senior Vietnamese leaders to the leaders of all ASEAN Member States, Australia, New Zealand and the ASEAN Secretary-General, and thanked them for their assistance and cooperation with Viet Nam in economic recovery process.
He affirmed Viet Nam wishes to further strengthen cooperation with these countries across fields, particularly politics-diplomacy, economy-trade-investment, defense and security, education and training, science and technology.
Pham also expressed his wish to continue close collaboration with these countries to build unified and united ASEAN, strengthen intra-bloc cooperation and promote the central role of ASEAN in handling security and strategic issues in the region.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Pham invited these countries to attend ASEAN Future Forum scheduled to take place in Ha Noi on April 23 this year.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed his pleasure to meet Prime Minister Pham again, saying that he looks forward to welcome Pham on his official visit to Australia, during which both sides plan to further elevated ties to a new level.
Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone agreed to foster collaboration with Viet Nam in implementing the agreements reached by the two countries' senior leaders, especially the results of the two Parties' recent meeting.
Siphandone thanked Viet Nam for its active support for Laos to undertake the role as ASEAN Chair in 2024.
King of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah agreed on the need to boost the exchange of high-level visits with Viet Nam, expressing his desire to visit Viet Nam soon.
President of Indonesia Joko Widodo agreed to step up rice trade and agricultural cooperation with Viet Nam, suggesting Viet Nam encourage Vinfast to invest in electric vehicle production in his country.
Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin agreed that both countries should convene Joint Cabinet meeting soon and beef up connectivity between the two economies.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos suggested the two countries forge cooperation in rice production and climate change adaptation.
Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong agreed that both sides should enhance cooperation in digital transformation, green economy, digital economy, data-based population management.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim congratulated on Viet Nam's rapid development in many areas, including foreign investment attraction, expressing his wish that both sides should tighten cooperation in luring foreign investment.
Prime Ministers of Australia and New Zealand spoke highly of Viet Nam's role in ASEAN, affirming that they will continue close cooperation with Viet Nam and other ASEAN Member States over common issues in the region.
Timor Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao expressed his wish to visit Viet Nam soon and thanked for Viet Nam's strong support for his country to soon join ASEAN.
ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn confirmed he will attend the ASEAN Future Forum in Viet Nam, expressing his hope that the forum will be held annually and become a premier platform to discuss issues related to the future of ASEAN./.
