PM inspects search and rescue operation for landslide victims in Lao Cai
VGP – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has arrived in Lang Nu village in the northern province of Lao Cai to inspect search and rescue operation for missing victims of a deadly landslide there.

The landslide triggered by intense rain from typhoon Yagi, crashed into the village early on September 10, killing at least 44 people and leaving another 51 people still missing, according to Chairman of Lao Cai provincial People's Committee Trinh Xuan Truong.
Prime Minister Pham called for stepping up search and rescue for the missing victims and cleanup efforts. He also expressed his deep condolences to the families of the victims.
The Government chief requested local authorities to complete reconstruction of the village by December 21, 2024.

Despite heavy rains, more than 650 people, including military officers and local residents are taking part in search and rescue efforts.

In addition to the above landslide horror, another massive landslide swept away a residential area in Nam Tong village, Nam Luc commune of Lao Cai's Bac Ha district, killing at least 7 persons and leaving another 11 persons still missing.
Lao Cai is one of the northern localities hardest hit by flooding and landslides induced by typhoon Yagi. As of 7 a.m. on September 12, at least 82 people died, 95 missing and 69 injured in the aftermath of the typhoon, the strongest storm over the last three decades./.
