Australia provides AUD 3 million in humanitarian assistance to Viet Nam
VGP - The Australian Government will provide Viet Nam with an initial AUD3 million for humanitarian relief, emergency supplies and other essential services following devastating typhoon Yagi.
The first tranche of emergency relief supplies arrived in Ha Noi on Wednesday.
Typhoon Yagi is the most powerful storm to hit northern Viet Nam in over three decades. Ongoing heavy rainfall in the mountainous regions has led to severe flooding and landslides, causing widespread destruction and loss of life.
Australia's Ambassador to Viet Nam, Andrew Goledzinowski said: "Australia is here to help Viet Nam in any way we can. We are pleased we've been able to quickly mobilize support to the most impacted areas and are working closely with the Government of Viet Nam and to ensure support reaches affected families and communities. We know there's a long road ahead and we stand shoulder to shoulder with Viet Nam at this difficult time".
Australia's assistance will include services delivered through the Australian Humanitarian Partnership in concert with local organizations targeting the most affected communities and the most vulnerable populations.
"Our contribution will ensure women, children and people with disabilities can access lifesaving assistance. These supplies include essential provisions for families such as shelter and hygiene kits", he shared.
Australia expresses its deepest condolences to the Government and people of Viet Nam as they mourn those who perished or are missing as a result of the natural disaster.
"We commend the Government of Viet Nam for its leadership in coordinating response efforts across the impacted area and stand ready to assist Viet Nam in its journey to recovery and rebuilding", asserted the Ambassador./.
