National Assembly to elect Viet Nam's key leadership positions next week
VGP - Viet Nam’s National Assembly is set to elect several top leadership positions, including the State President, the Prime Minister, and the National Assembly Chairman, during its upcoming first session starting April 6.

Speaking at a press conference in Ha Noi on April 3, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Office Nguyen Van Hien announced the tentative agenda of the first session of the 16th National Assembly.
The session will begin with a preparatory meeting April 5, officially open on the next morning, and is expected to conclude on April 23, 2026.
During the session, legislators will review and decide on key organisational and personnel matters, which form the central focus of the meeting.
The legislature will also deliberate on eight draft laws, one draft resolution, and major issues related to socio-economic development, finance, state budget, supreme supervision, and other important matters.
The National Election Council will present a report summarising the results of the general election.
Regarding personnel work, legislators will spend around 2.5 days to elect Viet Nam's new leaders, including the State President, the Vice State President, the Prime Minister, and the Chairman of the National Assembly.
They will also cast votes to elect Vice Chairpersons of the National Assembly; members of the National Assembly Standing Committee; Chairpersons of the National Assembly's Committees; Auditor General of the State Audit of Viet Nam; Secretary-General of the National Assembly; Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court; and the Chief Procurator of the Supreme People's Procuracy.
The legislators will also confirm nominees for the positions of Deputy Prime Ministers and Cabinet ministers at the proposal of the new Prime Minister.
Under the 2013 Constitution, the National Assembly Chairman, the State President, the Prime Minister, and the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court shall take the oath of office before the National Assembly immediately after being elected.
In particular, the National Assembly will consider and adopt the five-year socio-economic development plan for 2026–2030; the national five-year financial plan for 2026–2030; the public debt borrowing and repayment plan for 2026–2030; and the medium-term public investment plan for 2026–2030./.
