Month for Humanitarian Activities 2024 launched
VGP - Acting President Vo Thi Anh Xuan attended the launching ceremony of the 2024 National Humanitarian Month in Dien Bien province on April 22.
The event marks the 134th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19), the 161st anniversary of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (May 8) and the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7).
Addressing the event, Ms. Vo highly valued the significant contributions of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society to providing material and spiritual support for those in need, including victims of war, natural disasters and catastrophes, joining in early health care for the people, and urging collectives and individuals to join humanitarian activities.
Viet Nam has been actively engaging in humanitarian activities abroad as a responsible member of the United Nations and the world humanitarian movement.
The campaign runs from May 1 to 31. The Viet Nam Red Cross Society (VRC) targets to support 100,000 humanitarian addresses (individuals and groups).
In particular, each province and city society mobilize financial support to build and repair a boarding kitchen at preschools and primary schools with especially difficult conditions, worth at least VND150 million; build or repair two Red Cross houses for the poor and people in extremely difficult circumstances, worth a minimum of VND50 million; and livelihood support for at least 50 poor households and households in extremely difficult circumstances.
The Society will provide VND500,000 vouchers for 500 disadvantaged people in Dien Bien to access to purchase necessary goods. Blood donation drives, encouragement of organ and tissue donation registration will be held with the participation of about 500 people.
Earlier, a campaign named “Million steps of kindness”, a highlight of the National Humanitarian Month was launched by the (VRC) and the Vietnam Youth Federation from February 25 to April 21 via the website https://vrace.com.vn/race/
The campaign appealing to people of all ages and from all social strata to engage in good deeds for the sake of the community, drew the participation of nearly 100,000 participants and mobilized about VND14.1 billion for humanitarian activities in three provinces namely Thai Nguyen, Son La and Dien Bien.
The National Humanitarian Month was first launched in 2018. In 2024, the VRC strives to mobilize resources to reach VND400 billion to implement activities in Humanitarian Month and be ready to meet humanitarian assistance requests in 2024./.
