Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 7 completes UN peacekeeping mission

The homecoming ceremony took place at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City - Viet Nam's biggest economic hub.

Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Pham Manh Thang, Director of the Viet Nam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, said that during its one-year deployment, Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 7 earned the trust of UN leaders and personnel, local authorities and residents, becoming a reliable healthcare provider for the mission.

The hospital's personnel were highly appreciated by patients and international colleagues for their sense of responsibility, professional expertise, dedication and attentive care, he said.

The unit also actively coordinated with relevant agencies of the mission in civil-military cooperation activities, contributing to strengthening relations between the UN mission, local communities and host-country authorities.

Reporting on the unit's performance, Lieutenant Colonel Doctor Tran Duc Tai, Director of Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 7, said that the hospital admitted, examined and treated more than 2,200 patients during its deployment and successfully performed over 30 emergency surgeries, including complex procedures for critically ill patients.

The hospital's personnel demonstrated a proactive spirit, strong sense of responsibility and high professional expertise in promptly handling and effectively treating numerous complex medical cases, contributing to safeguarding the health of UN personnel and supporting the operations of the mission.

The unit also proactively developed and implemented measures to prevent and control epidemics in its area of operation, helping maintain a safe environment for personnel and patients.

Notably, the hospital gained the trust of the UN mission's health authorities and military medical leadership and was authorized to continue treating a number of severe and complex cases that would otherwise have required referral to higher-level medical facilities.

Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 7 was deployed to the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in September 2025, replacing Rotation 6. The 63-member unit was replaced by Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 8, which departed for South Sudan on September 22, 2026.

This marked the fourth deployment of Vietnamese doctors and medical personnel to directly perform duties at a Level-2 field hospital in South Sudan.

Through their professionalism, medical expertise and sense of responsibility, Vietnamese peacekeepers have contributed to enhancing the image of Viet Nam's "blue-helmet" forces among UN personnel, host-country authorities and local communities./.
