The same day, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son also cabled congratulations to the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, Caspar Veldkamp.

Viet Nam and the Netherlands established diplomatic relations in 1973.

The two countries agreed to organize events to mark the fifth anniversary of their comprehensive partnership (2019–2024), the ten years of their strategic partnership on sustainable agriculture and food security (2014–2024) and the fifteen years of the framework on climate change adaptation and water management in 2025.

Over the past 50 years, from a development partner supporting Viet Nam in a number of projects, such as building the Ha Noi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, the Eye Hospital, and water supply infrastructure, the Netherlands has become Viet Nam’s leading trade and investment partner in Europe.

The Netherlands is the largest EU investor in Viet Nam, with a total investment of US$13.7 billion, and the largest importer of Vietnamese goods in Europe, with a trade turnover of US$11 billion in 2022./.
