Kalmaegi typhoon claims five lives in central Viet Nam
VGP - Typhoon Kalmaegi has left at least five people dead and six others injured in central Viet Nam, according to the National Civil Defense Steering Committee.

Typhoon Kalmaegi causes heavy damages to the central provinces of Gia Lai and Dak Lak
Three of the fatalities were recorded in Dak Lak province, while the others were in the nearby province of Gia Lai.
According to preliminary reports from local authorities, typhoon Kalmaegi, the 13th storm to hit the East Sea in 2025 made 52 houses collapsed, ripping roofs from 2,593 others.
The Disaster and Dyke Management Authority under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment reported that typhoon Kalmaegi weakened into tropical depression on early Friday morning before further dissipating into a low-pressure area over southern Laos.
In the wake of the damage caused by the storm, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh decided to provide an emergency relief package worth VND 80 billion equivalent to US$3.2 million to three provinces — Quang Ngai (VND 20 billion), Dak Lak (VND 30 billion), and Gia Lai (VND 30 billion).
Additionally, the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front will grant VND 10 billion to each of the three provinces.
In the coming days, ministries, sectors, and localities will continue to implement prompt measures to address the aftermath of the storm, with priority given to repairing damaged or collapsed schools, hospitals, and houses. Efforts will also be made to ensure that no residents are left hungry, homeless, without medical care./.
