HCM City ranks second in Asia’s top 10 best street food cities
VGP - The southern metropolis Ho Chi Minh City ranks second in the list of top 10 Asian cities that can be considered a dream for every street food lover by Canadian travel magazine The Travel.
In its article released on February 20, The Travel noted that street food is a way of life in Viet Nam.
"While most could dish out their banh mi (baguette sandwiches), chao muc (squid porridge), and xa xiu (barbecued pork) out of old-fashioned restaurants, plastic chairs and tables on the streets are where locals prefer to eat their meals," the magazine shared.
"In fact, some stalls even specialize in Vietnamese coffees and pouring cold Saigon beers while belting out tunes on loudspeakers. Hop onto a Vespa and whizz through the many streets in Saigon for a street food experience unlike any other," it emphasized.
Ho Chi Minh City was one of the 15 cities most searched globally by travelers for the year-end holiday season, hotel booking data from online travel agency Booking.com shows.
Viet Nam's southern metropolis climbed 2,985 spots from last year to 12th place in this year's list.
Meanwhile, the American travel magazine Fodor's Travel named Ho Chi Minh City among the top destinations for tourists in 2023.
According to the municipal Department of Tourism, the city welcomed 30 million domestic and foreign arrivals in 2022, up 100 percent compared to the previous year.
This year, the city targets to receive 4.5-5 million foreign visitors and 30-35 million domestic ones.
