Grand ceremony marks 80th anniversary of Viet Nam People’s Army
VGP - A grand ceremony was held in Ha Noi on Friday to celebrate the 80th founding anniversary of the Viet Nam People’s Army (December 22, 1944 – 2024) and the 35th Anniversary of All-People National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 – 2024).
The ceremony was held by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, the National Assembly, the President, the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense.
The Viet Nam People's Army was founded on December 22, 1944, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and President Ho Chi Minh, with the noble task of safeguarding the nation's independence, freedom, and territorial integrity.
The army achieved numerous legendary triumphs, such as the victory of the August 1945 Revolution, of the 1945 Dien Bien Phu campaign over French colonialism, and of the 1975 Ho Chi Minh Campaign over American imperialism, significantly contributing to national liberation and reunification.
In peacetime, the army has actively engaged in socio-economic development, assisting in building infrastructure, promoting rural modernization, supporting poverty reduction programmes, and partaking in disaster relief, search-and-rescue operations. Many military units have also participated in United Nations peacekeeping missions, enhancing Viet Nam's international standing.
For its 80th anniversary, the Viet Nam People's Army has received the Ho Chi Minh Order – a prestigious recognition for the army's rich history and exceptional contributions to the nation.
To underscored that with the ultimate goal of building a peaceful, prosperous nation and helping to build a world without war, Viet Nam remains consistent with its policy of resolving all disputes and conflicts through peaceful means based on international law.
The country respects the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of all nations and does not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.
On December 19, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reassured that Viet Nam remains steadfast to its "four nos" defense policy: no partaking in military alliances, no siding with one country to act against another, no foreign military bases in the Vietnamese territory or using Viet Nam as leverage to counteract other countries, and no using force or threatening to use force in international relations, while he was addressing the opening ceremony of the Viet Nam International Defense Expo 2024.
