Gov’t to establish working group to speed up WB-funded projects
VGP – Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang said the Government will soon set up a working group to speed up the World Bank’s projects in Viet Nam.
The Deputy Prime Minister made the above statement during his meeting with WB Country Director Carolyn Turk in Ha Noi on November 3.
Tran also said he will assign the Ministry of Planning and Investment to submit a list of projects currently under preparations and the Government will remove projects that are unable to complete prepration process within 24 months.
Ms. Carolyn Turk spoke highly of the Government's intention to establish such working group, pledging to work closely with the group to handle obstacles arising in the implementation of the international lender's projects in the Southeast Asian country.
Both Tran and Turk agreed to meet every three months to review the progress of the bank's projects in the country.
Since 1993, WB has provided around US$25 billion in concessional loans along with technical assistance and policy recommendations for Viet Nam, making positive contributions to socio-econommic development here.
Leaders of the Vietnamese Government have repeated on multiple occasions that Viet Nam regards the WB as a good and important development partner, expressing their wish that the cooperation between Viet Nam and WB would continue thriving in the future./.
