Gov't approves Master plan on nuclear energy development
VGP - The Government has approved a master plan on nuclear energy development and application through 2030, with a vision towards 2050.

The master plan targets to perfect the legal frakework and state management of atomic energy in line with international practices, streamline and upgrade research, application and training institutions, and enhance the quality of the worforce for atomic energy sector.
The Government targets to expedite the development of national nuclear power infrastructure to support the implementation of the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project.
By 2050, radiation, radioactive isotopes and nuclear power development will make significant and effective contributions to socio-economic development, energy security, food security, environmental protection, and sustainable development, and nuclear safety and security safeguarding.
The level of nuclear science and technology, as well as various fields of atomic energy application, will catch up with the average level of developed countries.
Viet Nam will master and gradually become self-reliant in advanced technologies and techniques, ensuring that atomic energy application makes meaningful contributions to various socio-economic sectors.
The master plan also aims to complete and develop a network of medical facilities specialized in radiology, nuclear medicine, and oncology - radiation therapy by 2030 to serve medical examination, treatment, scientific research, and training.
To achieve the above objectives, the master scheme stipulates the implementation of nine solutions to perfect the management organization system; build and perfect the legal system and mechanisms and policies on the development and application of atomic energy; spur human resource development; build and develop scientific and technological potential; ensure nuclear safety and security; raise awareness and support from the community; promote international cooperation and integration; mobilize investment, finance and capital mobilization and conduct organization.
Regarding the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Tuesday ordered two State-owned groups, Viet Nam Electricity and Viet Nam Oil and Gas Group, to complete construction of two nuclear power plants by December 31, 2030.
The Prime Minister also assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to review and supplement the 8th edition of the National Power Development Plan while the Ministry of Science and Technology has to put foward amendments and supplementation to the Law on Atomic Energy.
The project involves building two nuclear power plants with a combined capacity of 400MW in the central province of Ninh Thuan./.
