Google to manufacture high-end smartphones in Viet Nam: Nikkei Asia
VGP - Google will start developing and manufacturing high-end smartphones in Viet Nam this year, unveiled Nikkei Asia in a recent article.
Google already has a large network of suppliers in Viet Nam that assemble its products, including Pixel smartphones.
According to the report, Google will begin new product introductions (NPI) for its Pixel, Pixel Pro, and Pixel Fold phones in Viet Nam, with development of the lower-end Pixel A series remaining in China for now.
NPI is a critical phase in launching a new electronics device, involving process development, verification, and refinement, the report added.
Google already mass-produces high-end smartphones in Viet Nam and conducts some verification there, so building new phones from scratch in the country should be achievable, the report said.
Viet Nam's electronics exports boomed in 2025, bringing in nearly US$165 billion, with computers, electronics, and components surpassing the US$100 billion mark for the first time to become the main driver of trade growth.
The breakneck growth of electronics, computers, and components in 2025 delivered an unprecedented export value of US$107.74 billion, up 48.4 per cent on-year, equivalent to an absolute increase of more than US$35 billion, according to the latest data from the National Statistics Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Finance.
Remarkably, Viet Nam's export of computers, electronic products and components to the U.S. jumped 81.3 percent to over US$42 billion, making up 27.4 percent of total shipments. Machinery, equipment and spare parts came next with US$24.1 billion, up 9.4 percent./.
