Of this, export value of timber and wood products contributed US$16.3 billion and non-wood forestry products earned US$1 billion.

The U.S. was the largest importer of Viet Nam's timber and wood product exports, accounting for over 55 percent of the total export turnover, mainly thanks to strong demand and reduced inventory levels in the U.S. market, said Director of the Forestry Department Tran Quang Bao.

The total area of newly planted forests in 2024 is estimated to exceed 270,000 hectares, a year-on-year increase of 2.4 percent. About 97 million scattered forestry trees were planted, up 3.4 percent year-on-year.

Wood harvesting output reached 22.7 million cubic meters, a 7.9 percent increase year-on-year.

Building on this year's achievements, the forestry sector targets to raise export turnover for forestry products to US$18 billion in 2025./.
