Foreign Minister to pay official visit to South Korea
VGP - Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son will pay an official visit to South Korea from May 30-June 1 at the invitation of his Korean counterpart Cho Tae Yul, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The visit takes place in the context that Viet Nam-South Korea comprehensive strategic partnership is at the best stage of development, manifesting Viet Nam's wish to strengthen the bilateral ties with South Korea.
The visit aims to promote the implementation of high-level cooperation agreements and important results achieved in recent visits by leaders of the two countries, especially in the fields of politics, security, national defense, economy, trade, investment, development aid, finance and banking, labor cooperation, science and technology, climate change response, transportation, infrastructure, education, cultural cooperation, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
Korean President Yoon Suck Yeol said his country considers Viet Nam as a crucial partner in its foreign policy, a focus in its Indo-Pacific strategy (IPS), and the Korea-ASEAN Solidarity Initiative.
Both nations have maintained all-level delegation exchanges and enhanced mutual advocate at international and regional forums. In 2022, the two countries elevated ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
South Korea is Viet Nam's largest cumulative investor, second largest aid provider, and third largest trading partner, illustrating the successful development of the bilateral relations.
More than 9,000 Korean companies are operating in Viet Nam. As of 2023, South Korea has invested approximately US$85.9 billion in Viet Nam, becoming the top foreign investor in the Southeast Asian nation.
The number of Vietnamese citizens working for Korean companies in Viet Nam is estimated to be around 800,000 to 900,000.
Meanwhile, rade between the two countries has increased 175 fold compared to 1992 when the two countries established diplomatic relations, making Viet Nam and South Korea the third largest trading partners to each other./.
