Employment rate increases in Q2

VGP - The number of employed people aged over 15 reached nearly 51.2 million in the second quarter of this year, an increase of 83,300 from the previous quarter and 691,400 more than the same period last year.

Of the figure, 27.67 million are males and 24.65 million are females, according to the General Statistics Office's report on labor and employment for the second quarter of 2023.

Around 19 million of them are living in urban areas while 32.2 million are living in rural areas.

The proportion of trained workers was 26.8 percent, up 0.6 percentage points year-on-year.

The number of statutory working-age unemployed people in the quarter was estimated at 1.07 million, up 25,400 in comparison with the previous quarter.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate was 2.75 percent in urban areas and 2.01 percent in rural areas. The highest rates were found in the Mekong Delta at 2.65 percent and the southeastern region at 2.64 percent.

The average monthly income of employees is 7 million (US$295).

By gender, the average monthly income was VND8 million (US$338) for males and VND5.8 million (US$245) for females. It was VND8.5 million (US$359) in urban areas and VND6.1 million (US$257) in rural areas./.
