Diplomatic sector becomes increasingly dynamic, creative, and proactive
VGP – Viet Nam has become increasingly dynamic, creative and proactive in diplomacy front, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son told reporters.
At a recent interview with reporters to review the diplomatic sector's performance in 2024, Bui said senior Vietnamese leaders engaged in 59 diplomatic activities, including 21 visits to countries around the world and hosted 25 foreign high-level delegations to Viet Nam.
The Souhtheast Asia country has doubled efforts to realize international agreements and commitments and to concretize newly-established partnership frameworks, and signed 170 cooperation deals across various fields.
Viet Nam upgraded relations to comprehensive strategic partnership with Australia, France, Malaysia, to strategic partnership with Brazil, and to comprehensive partnership with Mongolia and the United Arab Emirates, raising the total number of Viet Nam's comprehensive strategic, strategic, and comprehensive partners to 32. These are neighboring, traditional, and major countries in the world. These new partnership frameworks indicate's international friends' growing respect and wish to further strengthen cooperation with Viet Nam.
Viet Nam also established diplomatic relations with Malawi, bringing the total number of countries that Viet Nam has diplomatic relations to 194, said the Deputy Prime Minister.
He went on to say that economic aspect has become increasingly important part of high-level diplomatic agenda with major countries like China, the U.S., Japan, South Korean, India among others, with a focus on such fields like digital transformation, green conversion, semiconductor industry.
Viet Nam has also been active in riding the wave of foreign direct investment relocation and new-generation official development assistance in the region; expanding markets for manpower export and tourism development, said Bui.
It is likely that Viet Nam's trade with the rest of the world would surpass US$800 billion by the end of this year.
On multilateral aspect, Viet Nam's role, position and prestige have become increasingly consolidated and enhanced at multilateral forums like ASEAN, AIPA, UN, APEC, Mekong Subregion, G20, G7, BRICS, non-aligned movement among others, through proactive and active engagement and practical contributions.
The Southeast Asian country is gearing up preparations for hosting the 4th P4G Summit and ASEAN Future Forum and joining the race for a seat on the UN Human Rights Council in the 2026-2028 tenure, said Bui./.
