Prime Minister calls for promoting tech diplomacy

VGP – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called for promoting tech diplomacy, with a particular focus on semiconductor, artificial intelligence, aerospace, marine space, and underground space.

December 22, 2024 10:00 AM GMT+7

Pham made the call while addressing the conference to review interntaional economic integration in Ha Noi on December 20.

To date, global tech giants such as Apple, Intel, Google, NVIDIA, Samsung, LG, Cadence, Qorvo, Marvell, and Siemens have invested in or expanded cooperation with Viet Nam, according to Pham.

Apple has built 11 factories in Viet Nam while Intel has expanded chip testing capacity in Ho Chi Minh City and Google has expanded AI training in the country.

Viet Nam and NVIDIA have signed an agreement on establishment of an AI Research and Development Center and an AI Data Center in Viet Nam.

LG planned to open its third Research and Development Center in the Southeast Asian nation, added Pham.

He also called for further reform of visa policies to faciliate inbound tourism and investments.

The Government requested authorities to accelerate substantial trade promotion activities and continue to diversify markets and supply chains.

He tasked Ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions to continue efforts so that the U.S. would soon recognize Viet Nam’s market economy status and ease restrictions on tech-exports to the Southeast Asian nation; boost cooperation with China in railway connectivity; and cooperate with several Middle East countries in building an international financial center in Ho Chi Minh City, among others./.
