Deputy PM receives EU Commissioner for Agriculture
VGP - Viet Nam expects and stands ready to cooperate with the EU, especially in building the global food system, said Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh during his reception for EU Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski in Ha Noi on July 11.
At the meeting, Le expressed his delight on Viet Nam-EU comprehensive partnership and cooperation, particularly after the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) became effective on August 1, 2020.
The bilateral trade value reached nearly US$57 billion in 2021 and US$26.2 billion in the first five months of 2022, up 15 percent and 14.4 percent respectively, he noted.
With a view to realizing new agriculture development strategy and commitments at the COP26, Viet Nam hopes to expand cooperation in agriculture, particularly in such areas as trade, investment, climate change adaption, green agriculture and building a complete agricultural product supply chain, said the Deputy PM.
He suggested the EU create favorable conditions for Viet Nam's agriculture-forestry-aquatic products to enter the EU.
Le expected that the EU Commissioner for Agriculture will encourage the European enterprises to invest in Viet Nam's agriculture, focusing on high-tech agriculture and processing.
Viet Nam has launched measures to prevent illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing as recommended by the EU, the Deputy PM underscored, asking the EU to remove the "yellow card" on Vietnamese seafood exports.
For his part, Janusz Wojciechowski
The EU expects to import tropical agricultural products from Viet Nam and the bloc is investing in sustainable and smart agriculture projects and climate change adaption projects in the Southeast Asian nation, stated the EU Commissioner for Agriculture.
Viet Nam has made progress in its fight against IUU fishing, he asserted, adding that he will share the information with the European Commission (EC).
