Deputy PM holds phone conversation with British Foreign Secretary
VGP - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son held a phone conversation with the UK’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs David Lammy on December 20.
Bui reiterated that Viet Nam attaches importance to and hopes to promote the Viet Nam-UK strategic partnership towards a more substantive and effective manner.
He welcomed the UK's accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
Bui expressed his belief that along with the positive impact of the UK-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA), the UK's engagement in the CPTPP will help boost trade between the bloc and the European country, and strengthen Viet Nam-UK strategic partnership.
He highly appraised the UK's support for Viet Nam within the framework of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) between Viet Nam and the Group of Seven (G7).
Bui urged the UK to continue supporting Viet Nam to carry out the Resource Mobilization Plan (RMP) for the implementation of the JETP, to facilitate the nation's access to financing, technology, and human resource training.
Lammy, for his side, underlined that Viet Nam is a priority partner of the UK in Southeast Asia, especially in economic development, security, and defense.
He expressed his satisfactions at the two sides' approval of the Viet Nam-UK Action Plan for 2024-2026 at the bilateral strategic dialogue in October 2024.
The British official affirmed the UK's commitment to accompanying and assisting Viet Nam in climate change adaption and sustainable economic development, adding that British defense enterprises stand ready to cooperate with Vietnamese partners in this area.
Both sides hailed the fruitful developments of the Viet Nam-UK relations over the past 15 years since the establishment of their strategic partnership, particularly in fields of politics-diplomacy, trade-investment, security-defense, climate change adaption, and education-training.
They pledged to increase mutual visits at all levels, especially high level, continue to implement bilateral cooperation and dialogue mechanisms such as the strategic dialogue, the defense policy dialogue, and the migration dialogue, and work closely to implement the Viet Nam-UK Action Plan for 2024-2026.
Both sides vowed to promote ties in security-defense, particularly via the implementation of dialogue mechanisms, maritime cooperation, capacity building, crime prevention, and migration management.
The two officials expected that the Viet Nam-UK strategic partnership will be soon elevated in the coming time, especially when the countries will celebrate the 15th anniversary of their strategic partnership next year./.
