CLVM should reinforce cooperation to build dynamic and sustainably-developed region
VGP - Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Viet Nam should work together to promote substantive and effective cooperation to build a region of dynamic and sustainable development.
The Prime Minister made the above statement while delivering a keynote speech at the 11th Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Viet Nam (CLMV) Summit in Kunming city, China's Yunnan province on November 7.
Secondly, the four countries need to work together to promote cooperation in new and highly feasible areas that not only reflect emerging trends but also match with other Mekong sub-region mechanisms, particularly the Ayeyawady - Chao Phraya - Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) and the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS), said Pham.
He called for building an overall human resource development strategy, promising that Viet Nam will continue its scholarship program and stand ready to welcome students from Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar to study in Viet Nam.
Pham also underscored the importance of the engagement and contributions of business community and development partners to the process of formulating and implementing programs and projects in CLMV region.
Viet Nam always attaches importance to the CLMV cooperation mechanism and will continue to make all-out efforts to contribute to deepening the traditional friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation in the CLVM region, affirmed Pham.
Also at the summit, the leaders approved a joint statement and witnessed the transfer of the CLMV cooperation chairmanship from Myanmar to Viet Nam.
Since the establishment of the CLMV cooperation mechanism, Viet Nam has consistently acted as an active and responsible member, making significant contributions to this mechanism through various initiatives, including the CLMV Scholarship Fund which provides 20 scholarships each year to students from Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar to foster high-quality human resources training for the sub-region.
Viet Nam plays a coordinating role in several specialized cooperation areas, including human resources development, information technology and communications, trade, and investment. It has taken many practical activities to promote comprehensive cooperation among the CLMV countries, such as organising annual trade promotion fairs.
Viet Nam successfully hosted the 4th CLMV Summit in Ha Noi in November 2008, and the 8th edition in Ha Noi in October 2016./.
