Buddhist woodblocks in Bac Giang honored by UNESCO

VGP - The northern province of Bac Giang on October 6 held a grand ceremony, with the participation of many senior leaders, to receive a UNESCO certificate recognizing woodblocks at Vinh Nghiem Pagoda as part of the world documentary heritage of the Asia-Pacific region.

Over 3,000 Buddhist woodblocks, made in the early 14^th century by monks, are still preserved at the pagoda in Yen Dung District, one of the most ancient Buddhist training centers in Viet Nam.

At the ceremony, Bac Giang’s vestiges of the base of an early 20^th-century uprising against the French colonialists by Hoang Hoa Tham was also certified by the Government as a special national historical site.

The Government has also recognized 16 communes in Hiep Hoa District as the 2^nd revolutionary base where many senior officials of the Party sheltered during the anti-French resistance war.
