Ambassador hails top Vietnamese leader's visit to Cuba

The Ambassador made the point on the threshold of the State visit at the invitation of First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz and his spouse.

He assessed that the visit scheduled on September 25 and 26 is very special, as it will be the first by a top leader of the Party and State of Viet Nam to Cuba. Mr. To Lam is a great friend of the Cuban people, Party, and Government, he added.

During the visit, the two sides are expected to reach important agreements in the Party aspect, contributing to promoting the relations between the two Parties.

He was convinced that delegation exchanges and meetings through the Party, parliament, and Government channels would have positive impact on the relationship between the two countries as well as important cooperation areas.

Over the past 65 years, Viet Nam and Cuba have supported each other through difficult and complex moments and fought common enemies.

Viet Nam has been an important partner in Cuba's economic opening policy, becoming  the biggest investor and second largest trade partner of Cuba in Asia.

Viet Nam is the only country outside the Latin American region that Cuba has signed an agreement on trade preferences. 

The two sides have signed a medium-term bilateral economic economic agenda, while launching the intergovernmental committee mechanism, and increasing exchanges in political and legal fields.

Party General Secretary To Lam is the sixth Vietnamese leader to travel to the Caribbean nation over the last 15 years, after former President Nguyen Minh Triet in 2009, former President Truong Tan Sang (2015), late President Tran Dai Quang (2016), late Party General Nguyen Phu Trong (2018) and former President Nguyen Xuan Phuc (2021)./.
