WHO to share mRNA vaccine technology with Viet Nam
VGP - Viet Nam, along with Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan and Serbia will receive support from the World Health Organization (WHO)'s mRNA technology transfer hub in South Africa, announced the WHO on February 23.
These countries have been vetted by a group of experts and proved to have the capacity to move to the production stage relatively quickly, the WHO said.
The WHO also announced that it has set up a hub in the Republic of Korea to train low- and middle-income countries to produce their own vaccines and therapies, and is expanding its COVID-19 vaccine project to a further five nations.
The facility in the RoK is already carrying out training for companies based in the country and will now accommodate trainees from other countries, added the WHO.
Last week, six African countries - Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia - signed up as the first on the continent to receive the technology to manufacture mRNA vaccines at scale and according to international standards.
As of late February 23, 2022, Viet Nam administered 192,403,472 vaccine doses, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Health.
A total number of 67,329,883 individuals aged 18 and older have received the second shots while 13,554,051 people got the booster jabs.
More than eight million adolescents aged from 12-17 were fully vaccinated against COVID-19, said the ministry.
