VN’s futsal club nominated among top 10 best clubs for first time

Thai Son Nam FC is among the ten nominees in the “Best Club in the World” category, while its coach Pham Minh Giang (R) is up for “Best Club Coach in the World” at the Futsalplanet Awards 2020.

Though international tournaments were delayed last year due to Covid-19, Thai Son Nam FC still impressed the public by winning the double titles at the 2020 HD Bank National Futsal Championship and the National Futsal Cup.

The team also triumphed at the recent 14th LS Cup-Ho Chi Minh City Open Futsal Tournament.

Thai Son Nam FC was also among the nominees for best club in 2018. Its coach at that time, Miguel Rodrigo, and goalie Ho Van Y were also nominated for the best coach and the best goalkeeper.

In case AFC Futsal Club Championship cannot take place due to the Covid-19, AFC said it would nominate teams from Viet Nam, Thailand, Iran, Japan and Uzbekistan to 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Lithuania for achieving the best results in 2014-2018 tournaments.

Viet Nam finished in the top 8 in 2014 and 2018, and top 4 in 2016. They currently stand in 44th place with 1,046 points in the world ranking.
