VGP – Viet Nam treasures and welcomes the first visit to Viet Nam by Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, State President Tran Dai Quang told Yomiuri newspaper.

February 28, 2017 5:45 PM GMT+7

 Highlights of Viet Nam-Japan relations

State President Quang expressed his belief that the visit would help further strengthen the Viet Nam-Japan strategic partnership in all fields.

Political trust between the two countries has been increasingly consolidated thanks to the exchange of high-level visits in recent years, Quang noted.

Both countries have set up and effectively deployed a range of dialogue mechanisms and actively coordinated at regional and international forums.

Japan is one of the top official development assistance, investment and trade partners of Viet Nam. More than 1,600 Japanese enterprises are operating in the Southeast Asian country.

Bilateral cooperation in defense-security, agriculture, labor, and climate change adaptation has also advanced in recent years while local-to-local cooperation has become increasingly substantial.

Both sides should continue beefing up cooperation in potential areas like clean and high-tech agriculture, labor, culture and people-to-people exchanges in a bid to further enhance trust and mutual understanding among their people, said Quang, adding that they are the foundation for sustainable cooperation in the future.

He expressed his belief that the bilateral ties would continue strong advancements for the sake of each country and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Quang took the occasion to extend best wishes to the Royal family, Government and people of Japan./.
