The MoU is expected to create more chances for closer bilateral cooperation in nurturing human resource, upgrading infrastructure, managing radioactive wastes, guaranteeing nuclear security and safety, and building light-water nuclear reactors.

According to US Ambassador Michael W. Michalak, the MoU is a good foundation for a governmental negotiation on using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

The Ambassador expressed his confidence that, by strictly observing international commitments in the field, Việt Nam will be an example of civil nuclear energy development.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister Lê Đình Tiến reaffirmed Việt Nam’s consistent policy of using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes only.

“We are willing to cooperate with international partners in the field on the basis of respect to national independence, sovereignty and mutual benefits,” said Mr. Tiến.
