VN, US mark 25-year POW/MIA cooperation
VGP – Viet Nam and the US have been able to bring closure to families, friends and colleagues waiting to hear about their loved ones, said Ambassador David Shear.
The US Ambassador made the statement at the commemorative dinner to mark the 25-year cooperation on POW/MIA search operations between the two countries.
This month twenty five years ago, both sides began the first joint operation to investigate, search and recover the remains of U.S. servicemen missing in the mountains and deltas in Northern Viet Nam.
Over the reviewed period, they have completed more than 100 joint field activities or missions. This joint effort involved dozens of Americans and Vietnamese specialists, with experts in investigation and recovery, according to the diplomat.
“Our joint efforts have provided some closure to the many American families and I sincerely thank the Government and people of Viet Nam on their behalf,” said David Shear.
The United States looks forward to continuing cooperation with Viet Nam to achieve the fullest possible accounting of those Americans who have not yet been returned to their families.
“Our efforts together in pursuit of this shared humanitarian objective laid the foundation for the growth of the U.S. – Viet Nam relationship.”
