Under the newly-approved project, by 2030, Viet Nam will be home to 25-30 national and global-scale geological parks.

The project would be implemented in the 2014-2020 period in 37 provinces and cities across the country.

It will conduct scientific research activities to preserve, develop and manage geological parks; perfect mechanisms and policies on appropriate preservation and exploitation of geological heritage sites in Viet Nam and strengthen international cooperation in the field.

The project also aims to finalize a set of scientific criteria and process to define, evaluate, categorize and recognize geological heritage .

By 2020, Viet Nam will build and recognize 5-7 national geological parks and nominate 2-3 to the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) for recognition./.
