Addressing the opening ceremony, Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, said the establishment of the center meets the demand of the two countries’ business circles.

He expressed his hope that the trade center will strongly contribute to bilateral partnership in trade, investment and tourism between two contries.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Ton Sinh Thanh emphasised that the opening of the centre took place amid the rapid growth in bilateral relations.

Thanh stressed that there has been rapid growth in bilateral relations and trade between both countries will increase once barriers like high taxes and fees and complicated procedures are cleared.

He suggested the two governments soon mull over a bilateral preferential trade agreement and head towards the signing of a free trade agreement in the future.

Two-way trade revenue has increased by around 30% per year over the past three years. This is the highest commercial growth rate recorded between Viet Nam and a south Asian country.
