VN saves 492,000 kWh during Earth Hour
VGP – Viet Nam saved 492,000kWh of electricity, equivalent to VND 917 million (US$39,700), for one hour from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on March 30, according to the National Power Dispatch Centre.

During Earth Hour, people across the country switched off unnecessary electrical devices to raise awareness on environmental issues.
This year, the saving power was higher than the 485,000kWh of electricity saved during Earth Hour 2018.
Adressing at a ceremony held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in response to Earth Hour, Vice State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh said that climate change has and is occurring worldwide, causing heavy impacts on socio-economic development in various countries. Viet Nam was regarded as one of countries which would be badly hit. Hence, the event showed the determination and efforts of Vietnamese people to protect the environment and respond to climate change.
Earlier, Viet Nam started joining the campaign in 2009 and promised to cut greenhouse emissions by 8%.
Recently, the PM passed the national program on economical and efficient use of energy in the period of 2019-2030. The program targets to save 5-7% of total energy consumption in the 2019-2025 period; 8-10% in the 2025-2030 period./.
