VN mass produces first measles-rubella vaccine
VGP – Viet Nam has successfully mass produced a combined vaccine against measles and rubella for the first time, according to the Ministry of Health.
POLYVAC Director Nguyen Dang Hien said Viet Nam is the fourth country in Asia to produce this type of vaccine and the success helps the country secure a stable supply of vaccines, immune to shortage due to import procedures and foreign supply scarcity.
He added that mastering the production technology for this vaccine will help the centre to research other types of combined vaccines in the future.
Vietnamese children are expected to start receiving the vaccine free of charge in the very near future under the National Expanded Program on Immunization, according to other governmental sources.
The price of this Vietnamese-made vaccine is also much cheaper than the imported substance.
Viet Nam aims to eliminate measles in 2017 and put an end to rubella.
