The cable system will link nine countries and territories in the region

The construction contract was signed on December 21 in Beijing between Việt Nam Telecom International (VTI) and Chungwa Telecom from China, the KT Corporation from the Republic of Korea (RoK), and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation from Japan.

The US $500 million cable system will have a total capacity of 54.8Tbps transferring from 40Gbps optical switching technology.

By deploying the digital coherent detection (DCD) and optical add-drop multiplexing (OADM) technologies, APG enables the future system to be upgraded to 100Gbps to meet the ever increasing data traffic in the region's mobile phone and internet markets.

Scheduled to finalize in the second quarter of 2014, the project is expected to provide customers with direct and effective high-speed broadband connections.

Total length is expected to be 10,400km, linking China, Hong Kong, Japan, RoK, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Việt Nam and Singapore. APG is expected to meet the demand for intra-Asia connectivity between South East Asia and North Asia./.
