VN is among countries posting highest telecom growth

VGP - The statement was made by the International Telecommunication Union at an international telecommunications conference held by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) on May 19 in Hà Nội.

By the end of April, Việt Nam had 140 million phone subscribers, 87% of whom are mobile ones, and 23.6 million Internet users.

The MIC has licensed four local firms for establishing 3G mobile phone networks to boost the broadband market.

Addressing the conference, MIC Deputy Minister Lê Nam Thắng said Việt Nam has made great efforts to develop telecommunications services and networks and intensify the application of information technology nationwide, helping boost economic growth and people’s better living standard.

The high growth of the country’s telecommunications is mainly attributed to the strong economic development, the opened market and the Government’s commitment to information and communication technology development.

Delegates to the conference focused discussions on the recent rapid development of Việt Nam’s telecommunications market and the future trends, development plans of local telcos, and solutions for telecommunications development.
