According to Ms. Ngân, employment and social security issues have been integrated with goals to improve the labor market and human resources and also mainstreamed in the Socio-Economic Development Strategy for 2011-2015.

She said the Vietnamese Government is studying a possibility to apply UN Social Protection Floor Initiative (SPF-I) along with carrying out the recently adopted Resolution No. 80 on orientations of sustainable poverty reduction in the 2011-2020 period to enable more people to have access to employment and social security.

At present, the Vietnamese Government is implementing measures to improve labor management, employment service system, vocational training programs for rural workers, people with disabilities, poor people, and ethnic minorities, together with solutions to curb inflation, stabilize the macro-economy and provide better social security for the people, said Ms. Ngân.

She spoke highly of the ILO’s efforts to adopt a new legal tool to protect house maid and its proposals to expand the insurance coverage under the UN’s SPF-I.

Ms. Ngân also took this occasion to show gratitude to the ILO member states for electing Việt Nam as an official member of the ILO Board of Directors for the 2011-2014 period and deliver promises that Việt Nam will well undertake the role.
