VN, Haiti talk of chances for strategic partnership

VGP – In their talks in Ha Noi on December 17, PM Nguyen Tan Dung and his Haiti counterpart Laurent Salvador Lamothe pledged to discuss possibilities for the establishment of long-term strategic partnership in terms of security and food.

The commitments were made on the occasion of PM Laurent Salvador Lamothe’s 4-day official visit of to Viet Nam.

Meeting his Vietnamese counterpart, the Haitian PM thanked the Vietnamese Government’s assistance to Haiti and confirmed Haiti’s determination to cooperate with Viet Nam in terms of food security, telecommunication, trade, culture and education.

PM Dung highly spoke of achievements of Haiti in stabilizing politics, developing economy and society, expanding diplomatic relations as well as overcoming consequences of the earthquakes in 2010.

He asserted that Viet Nam values and expects to develop the relationship and cooperation with Haiti in all fields, especially in terms of trade, telecommunication, agriculture, construction, science-technology, education, health, food security and poverty reduction.

The two leaders were unanimous in boosting up favorable legal mechanism and framework for cooperation, launching negotiations for agreements on Frame Cooperation, investment encouragement and protection, cooperation in food security, agriculture, culture-sports and tourism, and visa-free entry to holders of diplomatic and business passports.

The two PMs committed to creating favorable conditions for the two countries’ businesses and organizations.

They lauded the performance of NATCOM, a joint venture between Viet Nam’s Viettel and the Haitian Ministry of Economy and Finance, describing it as an exemplary model to be popularized.

They also exchanged views of international and regional issues of mutual concerns and agreed to support each other at multilateral and international forums for world and regional peace, stability and development.

After the talks, the two leaders signed the Viet Nam-Haiti Joint Statement and witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding to establish the Strategic Investment Partnership between Viettel Group and the Haitian Government.
