VN continues strict control of entrants in favor of economic recovery

VGP – Localities nationwide have been required to report their quarantine plans for foreign experts in order to ensure safety as the number of incoming experts is expected to continue rising in the next months.

The requirement was announced at a meeting of the National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control on Thursday, during which the committee discussed reception of Vietnamese nationals, business managers, foreign investors, technical experts, and skilled workers.

As Viet Nam has successfully contained the pandemic, paving the way for the country to have restarted the economy, including allowing foreign experts and business managers to return to the nation.

So far, more than 1,800 foreign experts have been isolated in accordance with the current measures on COVID-19 containment and the figure is expect to increase by 2,700 in the next two months, according to the Ministry of Health.

In addition, about 5,021 Vietnamese citizens have been brought home from foreign countries and territories since April 24 following the Government’s efforts to have arranged 17 special repatriation flights.

In a bid sto staunch the spread of the virus to communities, the Ministry of Health dispatched teams to inspect quarantine work for foreign experts in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Quang Ngai, Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen as well as designated hotels for airline crews in Ha Noi, said Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long.

Long added the ministry will continue inspection in other provinces and cities with a view to make sure that quarantine regulations for foreign experts are implemented properly.

At the meeting, members of the steering committee underlined the necessity to continue sticking to the “dual goals” of containing the pandemic and rebooting the economy.

The committee, led by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, agreed to continue strict management of crew members of international flights and quarantine for people entering the country via land border gates.

As of 6pm on June 4, Viet Nam reported 328 COVID-19 infection cases, of which 302 patients have recovered, accounting for 92%.

The country has gone 49 days without new community infections./.
