The report is made in the context that Việt Nam has fulfilled two thirds of MDGs after realizing the socio-economic development strategy for the 201-2010 period and the five year socio-economic development plans for 2001-2005 and 2006-2010.

According to the MPI, in 2010, Việt Nam is expected to acquire a GDP of US $106 billion and GDP income per capita of around US $1,200, which are 3.4 times and three folds bigger than ten years ago. Việt Nam is shifting from the group of least underdeveloped countries to middle-income status.

The Southeast Asian country is targeting to finalize MDGs, especially by eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, achieving universal primary education, promoting gender equality, and reducing child mortality.

However, the country is facing with numerous challenges such as high poverty rates in the Northwestern and ethnic minority regions, poor quality of education facilities, and gender inequality in mountainous areas.

In addition, worsen environment and climate change have caused severe impacts on the economy and living standards of residents./.
