Vinamilk to be in Asia 50 best public firms list

VGP - Viet Nam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk) has been named among Asia’s largest publicly traded companies by Forbes Asia magazine, known collectively as Fabulous 50 or FAB 50.

September 06, 2016 3:52 PM GMT+7

In making Asia's FAB 50 List, Forbes started with a pool of 1,524 public companies that have at least $1.7 billion in annual revenue. Firms with more than 50% state-ownership were crossed out as the goal was to highlight entrepreneurial outfits, not ones living off government connections.

As of August 2016, Vinamilk has market cap of US$9.2 billion, ranking 24th on the Fab 50 list. Its revenue is estimated at US$1.8 billion.

On dairy companies around the world, Vinamilk stood at 49th position by revenue last year, whose figure was 18% higher than the average revenue of Asian milk companies, according to another report by Euro Monitor.

Now, the company has 10 farms and 13 factories in Viet Nam, three factories in the US, New Zealand and Cambodia, and a subsidiary in Poland.

Vinamilk is seeking to export its products to new markets such as Thailand, Myanmar and Africa.

Since 2005, Forbes has been selecting 50 firms each year in the Asia Pacific region for the Fabulous 50 list to identify the corporate stars of the region./.
