Vietnamese, Lao Vice Presidents hold talks

VGP – Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and her Lao counterpart Bounthong Chitmany underlined the significance and values of the outcomes of cooperation between Viet Nam and Laos, serving as the basis for both countries to further consolidate and strengthen bilateral ties in a comprehensive and effective manner.

During their meeting in Ha Noi on Sunday, both sides agreed to maintain high-level visits and contacts across channels, organize practical activities marking the Viet Nam-Laos Friendship Year and Laos-Viet Nam Friendship Year 2022, coordinate in realizing the two countries' high-level agreements including Viet Nam-Laos cooperation strategy for 2021-2030 and Viet Nam-Laos agreement on bilateral cooperation in the 2021-2025.

The two Vice Presidents also agreed to expand infrastructure connectivity and cooperation in energy, telecommunication, digital economy, and border trade.

The two sides consented to continue improving the effectiveness of cooperation in defense, security, transport, education-training, culture-sports and local-to-local cooperation.

The two Vice Presidents discussed several regional and international issues of mutual concerns, pledging to continue promoting close coordination and mutual support at multi-lateral forums, especially the UN, ASEAN and Mekong sub-regional mechanisms. 

They reiterated their efforts to join hands with ASEAN member states to ceaselessly consolidate solidarity, unity and central role of ASEAN and to maintain common principles, values and stance on issues directly related to peace and stability in the region. 

Both sides agreed to handle international and regional issues via peaceful measures on the basis of respect for international law. 

Bounthong Chitmany took the occasion to invite the Vietnamese Vice President to pay an official visit to Laos in an appropriate time and the latter gladly accepted the invitation./.
