Vietnamese, Lao PMs hold working session

VGP - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Wednesday had a working session with his Lao counterpart Sonexay Siphandone on the sidelines of the 4th Mekong River Commission (MRC) Summit that took place in Vientiane, Laos.

The two Prime Ministers expressed their delight at the development of Viet Nam-Laos great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation across all sectors, remarkably the two-way trade hit over US$1.7 billion last year, up over 24 percent annually.

They vowed to realize the Viet Nam-Laos cooperation strategy agreement for the 2021-2030 period, the Viet Nam-Laos bilateral cooperation agreement for 2021-2023, other high-level agreements and cooperation plans signed in various fields.

The two leaders emphasized the need to increase delegation exchanges at all levels, enhance security and defense cooperation and work together in combating trans-national crimes, particularly drug crimes.

Both sides pledged to elevate economic cooperation, strengthen economic linkages, support each other in building an independent and self-reliant economy, and renew the implementation of aid projects.

They are determined to focus on removing obstacles and accelerating key road and rail transport connectivity projects and create favorable conditions for Viet Nam-invested projects in Laos in terms of administrative procedures and site clearance.     

Viet Nam stands ready to coordinate with Laos in successfully performing international tasks in the coming time, including the ASEAN/AIPA Chairmanship in 2024, Prime Minister Pham said./.
