Vietnamese, Chinese foreign ministers hold strategic discussion in Ha Noi
VGP - Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi held a strategic discussion in Ha Noi on March 15 ahead of the 17th meeting of the Viet Nam–China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation and the first ministerial-level strategic dialogue on foreign affairs, national defense and public security between the two countries.

At the meeting, Le congratulated China on the successful organization of the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress and the 14th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, as well as its recent socio-economic achievements.
He affirmed that Viet Nam supports China's continued development and its growing contributions to peace, stability and development in the region and the world. The minister stressed that the Party, State and people of Viet Nam consistently regard the consolidation and development of relations with China as a strategic choice and a top priority in Viet Nam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification.
For his part, Wang expressed his pleasure to visit Viet Nam again and congratulated the Southeast Asian country on the successful organization of the 14th Party Congress of Viet Nam.
China supports the leadership of the Party Central Committee headed by General Secretary To Lam, expressing his belief that Viet Nam will continue achieving new and greater accomplishments in national development, he said.

Both sides acknowledged the positive and comprehensive progress in Viet Nam–China relations in recent years. They agreed that the two countries' diplomatic agencies should strictly implement high-level common perceptions, maintain close coordination, and effectively carry out measures to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership while advancing the building of a Viet Nam–China community with a shared future of strategic significance under the "six major orientations".
The two sides also agreed to carefully prepare for upcoming high-level visits and exchanges, while working with ministries, sectors and localities to make new breakthroughs in substantive cooperation, thereby elevating relations between the two Parties and the two countries to a new level.
Le proposed that both sides improve the quality and efficiency of cooperation across various fields, promote balanced and sustainable trade. He also suggested China increase import of Vietnamese goods, particularly agricultural products.
Le called for stronger strategic connectivity, increased high-quality investment, greater technology transfer in industrial cooperation, and closer coordination to ensure energy security. In addition, the Vietnamese minister suggested increasing scholarships for Vietnamese students, particularly in basic sciences and high technology.
He further proposed enhancing practical cooperation between localities, strengthening tourism connectivity to increase visitor flows in both directions, and promoting cultural exchanges.
Wang welcomed the proposals and affirmed China's readiness to work closely with Viet Nam to effectively implement high-level common perceptions. He suggested both sides further strengthen economic, trade and investment cooperation.
China is ready to encourage its major enterprises to expand investment in Viet Nam, he said, adding that the country will increase bilateral and multilateral scholarships for Vietnamese students and step up cultural, educational and tourism exchanges.
The two officials also held frank and candid discussions on sea-related issues and exchanged views on international and regional matters of mutual concern./.
