Vietnamese, Australian PMs visit level-2 field hospital no. 2

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison visited Viet Nam’s level-2 field hospital no. 2 at the Military Medical Academy, under the Ministry of National Defense, in Ha Noi on August 23.

The leaders were joined by Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung and Deputy Defense Minister Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh.

Since November 2018, all the staff of the level-2 field hospital no. 2 gathered at the Viet Nam Department of Peacekeeping Operations to participate in a nearly-three-month pre-deployment training course as required by the United Nations.

The training contents included basic knowledge of UN peacekeeping, knowledge of the the mission to which the level-2 field hospital no. 2 will be deployed, survival skills in the African environmental conditions, and identification of bombs, mines and explosives.

Viet Nam’s conducting pre-deployment training for the level-2 field hospital no. 2 is a premise to make good preparations for the replacement of the level-2 field hospital no. which is currently performing the UN peacekeeping tasks in South Sudan. In addition, the activity continues to affirm Viet Nam’s greater role, responsibility and efforts in participating in UN peacekeeping missions for peace and stability in the world, thereby contributing actively to the integration process of Viet Nam and the building of the country’s image, prestige and position in the international arena.

Viet Nam has committed to alternately sending its field hospitals to participate in UN-led peacekeeping activities in the South Sudan Mission annually. The level-2 field hospital no. 2 will replace the level-2 field hospital no. 1 after its one-year operation in South Sudan, and one year later, the field hospital no. 1 will return to the locality to take the place of the hospital no. 2.

When these hospitals return to Viet Nam, they will become the mobile hospitals of the army, participating in the search, rescue and disaster relief missions, international bilateral and multilateral exercises, and military and civilian medical coordination activities in emergencies./.
