Viet Nam’s GDP growth accelerates to 9.95% in Q3

VGP - Viet Nam’s economy grew by 9.95 percent in the third quarter and 9.01 percent over the first nine months of this year, the National Statistics Office announced on Saturday.

The nation's GDP in the third quarter is higher than the growth rates of 8.15 percent in the first quarter and 8.81 percent in the second quarter.

In the January-September period, the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector posted a growth rate of 4.02 percent, contributing 5.35 percent to the increase in the total value added of the economy; the industry and construction sector expanded 11.21 percent, contributing 49.62 percent; and the services sector grew 8.96 percent, contributing 45.03 percent.

The Industrial Production Index (IIP) in the third quarter was estimated to increase by 14.8 percent year-on-year. For the first nine months of 2026 as a whole, the IIP expanded 12.3 percent year-on-year.

During the reviewed period, more than 223,900 enterprises nationwide registered for new establishment or resumed operations, down 3.2 percent from the same period in 2025. On average, 24,900 enterprises entered the market each month. Meanwhile, 172,000 ones withdrew from the market, down 1.7 percent year-on-year.

For the first nine months of 2026, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue at current prices saw a year-on-year increase of 13.4 percent, reaching VND 5,925.7 trillion (nearly US$228 billion).

As of September 30, 2026, total registered foreign investment in Viet Nam—including newly registered capital, adjusted registered capital, and capital contributions and share purchases by foreign investors—reached US$50.36 billion, up 76.4 percent year-on-year.

Realized foreign direct investment (FDI) during the period of time was estimated at US$21.07 billion, up 12.1 percent, the highest amount over the past five years.

Meanwhile, during the first nine months of 2026, Vietnamese investors poured US$1.28 billion in 121 projects overseas, up 80.9 percent. In addition, 32 existing projects increased capital totaling US$1.49 billion, 10.8 times higher than in the same period last year.

For the first nine months of 2026, total import and export turnover of goods reached US$888.02 billion, up 30.4 percent year-on-year.

Of the figure, exports reached US$434.30 billion, up 24.5 percent year-on-year, while imports hit US$453.72 billion, up 36.7 percent.

Viet Nam recorded a trade deficit of US$19.42 billion.

The U.S. remained Viet Nam's biggest export market with US$140 billion while China continued to be the largest import market of Viet Nam with US$187.34 billion.

In September, Viet Nam welcomed 1.77 million foreign visitors, down 11.3 percent compared to the previous month and saw a year-on-year increase of 16.1 percent. During January-September, 17.7 million foreign arrivals travelled to Viet Nam, up 14.5 percent./.
