Participants included the United Nations (UN) representatives, leaders and heads of delegations from numerous countries participating in the High-level General Debate, ambassadors and heads of missions of countries at the UN and representatives of the U.S. Administration and Congress.
Addressing the event, the State President emphasized that 80 years ago, on September 2, 1945, at the historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, solemnly announcing to the world the founding of the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam, now the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, marking a new era—an era of independence and freedom for the Vietnamese nation.
Luong stated that Viet Nam's relations with the UN is a vivid example of cooperation and companionship while Viet Nam's relationship with the U.S. demonstrates a spirit of setting aside the past, overcoming differences, and looking toward the future.
Viet Nam and the U.S. have become comprehensive strategic partners for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development, based on sincere understanding and mutual respect, noted the leader.
The President expressed his gratitude to the friends and people of the U.S., as well as to peace-loving friends across the five continents, who have wholeheartedly supported the cause of the Vietnamese people and contributed significantly to the development of the Viet Nam–U.S. relations.
He expected that the Vietnamese community in the U.S. will continue to serve as "ambassadors of friendship," connecting Viet Nam with the U.S. and international friends, strengthening national unity, and working toward a bright future for the Vietnamese nation.
In a world full of uncertainties, Viet Nam will remain steadfast with supporting multilateralism, the UN Charter, and international law, resolving disputes and disagreements via peaceful means, while safeguarding the interests of its nation and peoples.
Viet Nam is determined to strengthening and further deepening its friendship and cooperation with countries and partners worldwide, contributing positively to global politics, the world economy, and human civilization, while working alongside international friends to create a peaceful, stable, and sustainable development environment for all nations, underlined the State leader.
UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu highlighted that over the past eight decades, Viet Nam has become a dynamic, modern society and a leading nation in the region.
She commended Viet Nam's commitments to the UN and the UN Charter, on the basis of multilateralism, peaceful conflict resolution, cooperation, sustainable development, and equality, demonstrating the nation's status and role within the international community./.
